Lately

Since I've been a missing blogger the past few weeks, here's a little of what I've been up to lately!

We took Maggie to meet her great-uncle-dog (my grandparents dog).
Champ is just a slightly bigger version of Maggs.

At one point, Brice had both dogs napping on him. Maggie got jealous that Champ was snuggled with Brice, so she had to get in on it too.

Our save the dates are being printed!

I've become addicted to bacon cheeseburgers. #fact

Maggie likes to sit like a person sometimes.

I'm addicted to the game DrawSomething. Come play with me. sarahpoupard
My father is the most comical to play with. See exhibits A, B, and C below:

I love my fun flip flops.

My old drama teacher's band, Stevens Layne, opened for Rodney Atkins at the Cherry Blossom Street Party, so we went to see her! I also made Lorin look like a vampire with the flash on my camera.
And yesterday I laid out at the pool for the first time this year!
Tan, here I come!

Cherry Blossom Fun

Let's talk about these trees.
Cherry blossom trees were brought over here a billion years ago by some foreign guy and planted all around our little city. You can read the more formal history here.
The moral of the story is that each year, we have a giant week-and-a-half long festival to honor these trees.

And the Cherry Blossom Festival is no joke. There's even an official song. "it's cherry blossom timmmmeeee..."
Seriously, people come from all over the WORLD to see these trees.

Luckily, this year, the trees actually bloomed DURING the festival and it didn't torrentially rain to wash them all away...which is what usually happens...

So, the first Friday of the festival, the kids I keep were out of school, so we headed on down to the carnival part of the festival.

It was quite fun!

There are craft fairs, nightly concerts, dog frisbee shows, strong-man competitions, a bed race.
Lots of fun activities.
And the week ends with the street party.
This year, Rodney Atkins played at the street party, and my old drama teacher's band, Stevens Layne opened for him!

But wait!
That's not all!
The rest of the town goes all out for cherry blossom too!

Chick-fil-a has pink ice dreams! (Don't worry, they're still vanilla flavored)

They also sell pink Chick-fil-A cherry blossom t-shirts.

People get cherry blossoms painted on their cars.
Schools go there on field trips.
We have a cherry blossom pageant with a Cherry Blossom Queen.
And tours around town to see the Cherry Blossom trees.

But, while that's all fine and dandy, lets talk about the downfall of the festival...
Like I said earlier, people come from all over the world to see these trees.
Now, yes, the trees are beautiful. and yes there's a ton of them.
But, for those of us who live here, the tourists who drive 5 miles an hour down the road to look at the trees can get old real quick.
Some of us have places to be.
Not to mention, every 30 feet, someone has pulled over to get out of their cars and take pictures.
So while I have fun with all the festivities, I sure am glad to see the festival go because it finally means I can drive at least the speed limit again.

Driving Pet Peeves

Driving down the road, I always get irritated because without fail, someone always does something stupid while driving. You know, that little thing that just irks the stew out of you. Like when people...

Don't use their blinkers.

Drive under the speed limit.

Wait until the very last minute to merge.
Source
Cut you off.

Drive slow in the fast lane.

Don't use their headlights in the rain.

Don't pay attention because they're on the phone.
Source
Don't pay attention to yield signs.

Take my turn at stop signs.

Stop when there is no stop sign.

Park crooked.
Source
Drive without break and tail lights.

Play their music so loud I can't hear my own music.

Park on both sides of residential streets so there's barely enough room to drive on the road.

Think because they're mailmen, driving laws don't apply to them and they drive like loons.

Honk at me for no reason, when I have done nothing wrong.

We all have pet peeves about driving...What's yours?

Bad Blogger

I have been such a bad blogger lately! School has been crazy chaotic. And hard. So when I get home, all I want to do is sit around and watch tv.

But, I'm still here! And I have posts I want to write. I just have to get the motivation to write them. Hopefully soon, you'll see some posts about:

  • Cherry Blossom Fun
  • Things drivers do that annoy me
  • A catch-up on what's been going on in my life.
Meanwhile, I'm off to register for the fall semester of my senior year of college!! EEEEKKK!! That sounds scary just typing it!

Happy Pi Day!! In case you aren't aware, the mathematical constant for pi is a never ending decimal, but most people round it to 3.14, so today, 3/14 is considered pi day!

Secondhand Chic

This past weekend, Leslie came to visit, and as usual, we didn't take any pictures. #bloggerfail
BUT, we did have an AWESOME thrifting experience.

My friend Emily came with us, and we headed up to Atlanta to go to the swanky Goodwill in Buckhead.
Y'all, we literally tried on half the store. I kid you not.
We all shared a buggy, and that thing was piled HIGH with clothes for the three of us to try on.
I legit tried on at least 30 pairs of jeans and pants.
And we spent two and a half hours in the store.

But, all our hard work paid off! I got several pairs of jeans that look brand spankin' new! And I got a few shirts too. I also found some vases for us to use as wedding decorations!

Here's the secondhand chic outfit I sported yesterday:
Plaid shirt and jeggings were Goodwill purchases.
Please excuse JC Penney's in the background. I had to make use of their big mirror to fully capture my outfit.

And jeggings have changed my life. They were so much easier to put in those boots than my skinny jeans are! Where have I been? In a hole? Why did I not know about this amazing invention until now?
I looked online to see how much those jeggins were originally, and they were $48! I got them for $5. Best purchase ever.

And I plan to start hitting up our Goodwill more often! You never know what little gems you'll find!

Crazy day

Yesterday was quite the eventful day. I woke up feeling bad, but we were doing important paperwork in my first class. So I get up and drag myself to class, passing off bagel chips as breakfast.

As we were sitting in class discussing placements and paperwork for next semester, I start getting really hot. And I knew it was coming. I picked up my paper to fan myself and I started feeling like I was going to pass out.

So I sit on the floor just in case. Which then causes my professor to notice me...and in the middle of class she says, "put your head between your knees. It will help with the dizziness. I'm serious...do it now." So I'm sitting there, head between my knees, waiting for class to get out.

Emily then drove me back to Brice's, where I proceeded to re-greet my bagel chips from that morning.

I literally felt like I had been run over by a truck.

When Brice came home for lunch, he was going to ride with Emily back to school to get my car. And he ended up working from home the rest of the day so he could take care of me!

Luckily I had another friend named Emily who picked up the kids for me.

Overall the day was quite eventful. But I feel so much better now. Not sick at all! I think it's because of my awesome friends coming to the rescue and taking care of me.

On a happier note, I am so excited that Leslie will be here tonight!! I can't wait to go thrifting tomorrow with her and Emily!
